Showcase: Holding Your Own

This is in the showcase.  This is part of a selection of poems from my friend.  Comments and thoughts please.

Title: Holding Your Own
Author: Adam Morgan
Rating: U
Genre: Poetry
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction.

‘Holding your own’ is a misunderstanding, in its own right,
To think of all the places and times,
Where one could see the hints and the signs,
You wouldn’t need to have a degree, or even be that bright,
To talk of evolutionary incitement,
Despite words of knowledge from Darwinian hand,
They might as well come from the mouth of a tree, or a bird or a Bush,
One could describe the wonders of a working mind,
In terms of true contentment, I find.

So let it go, let it pass, teach also to the back of the class,
To those who scrimp and save, and multiply,
I maintain: you should have the right to say: ‘aye’.
You should be allowed to stand and say I do,
But be not required to stand alongside, or retire, with vipers,
Those vicious snakes, the vile brood, to whom a concoction,
Equates to fiscal capability.
