Title: Top Drawer
Author: Adam Morgan
Rating: U
Genre: Poetry
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction.

My existence can be imagined,
As the life-journey of a knife:
Where once I was bright and shiny,
Now I am dull; my strength gone,
And I am filled with the brittleness,
My previously sharp edge is blunted;
From the repeated infliction of criticism,
Across my blade we see the colour raid,
The fiery redness that may never fade,
Surely it cannot continue for long;
Indeed! For soon I will disintegrate or splinter,

My unpublished words will never reach the printer,
Or perhaps I will simply cease to be used,
The hurt and pain would not decrease,
Yet no more will I cleave the sweetness of fruit,
Or be dipped in joy to spread with love,
Never again would I see the beauty of the kitchen world,
Nor come between the crust of Earth and the loaf of Life.

However, there is hope and there is a way to soak,
Soak away the misgivings, do not let the fire consume,
Salvation is a kitchen sink deep enough for all our dirty pots,
For our pans echoing with the pangs of pain,
Shamelessly our enemies are blinded by name, title,
‘Royal Appointment’ or deed, mercilessly they continue,
Despite many of them standing up and reciting the Creed,
They cannot see that they are chefs who’ve been at the mead!
Justice comes by a nature truly divine; like a great big knife!
By its rise and fall, it will cleave, both the mouse and the cheese.
