Title: The Brook
Author: Adam Morgan
Rating: U
Genre: Poetry
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction.

The brook, the brook that the ravens took, long ago as their own,
Down along the riverside,
Where the mountains rise beyond the clouds,
And the trees scarcely lower, louder and louder still they cry,
And swoop and dive, and devour,
Their flight sometimes obscuring even our bright shining sun, until the night, on Earth, depriving does come.
Robbing those of us of temporal blindness, our perception,
Not just our sight.

There beside the babbling brook, the brook that the ravens took,
I was witness to all upon which God doth look,
The Kind, the Mean, the Straight, the Crook,
Many things I have not seen, nor do I wish to entertain,
But a certain wave comes over me,
At once washing away uncertainty,
When I think what the mind may, or may not, be,
A poison chalice, if ever, one I see:
Our eternal struggle, perhaps, to be free, free sin or death,
Sickness or dark desire, a battle within our minds,
A fight within our Souls, our struggle to be free,
From our human nature, and the nature of our reality,

Yet freedom can be found, in the air, or on the ground,
Down along the riverside,
Where the mountains rise beyond the clouds,
And hedgerows form the boundaries,
Beyond which no-one knows, of the life that lies therein,
Except He Who Knows.
